Stix SGV Hat New Hauk Snake Dad Strapback (Washed Black/Red/Red) blends classic skate-shop style with tattoo-inspired artwork rooted directly in the San Gabriel Valley. Designed alongside longtime friend of the shop and renowned tattoo artist Jeanine Hauk, also known professionally as Lady Hauk, this hat carries a darker, more personal visual identity that feels deeply connected to the streets, personalities, and creative culture surrounding skateboarding in Southern California. Raised in Monrovia and respected throughout both the tattoo and art worlds, Hauk brought her signature traditional illustration style into this piece with a striking embroidered snake-and-lettering design that instantly stands out without feeling overworked.
The front embroidery features a detailed red serpent wrapping aggressively over the custom STIX lettering, giving the hat a sharp, hand-drawn aesthetic inspired by classic tattoo flash and American Traditional artwork. The embroidery has that slightly dangerous, gritty feel that reflects Hauk’s artistic background — clean but raw, detailed without becoming polished to the point of losing personality. The tonal red stitching against the washed black crown creates strong contrast while still keeping the overall look wearable and understated.
The color combination gives the hat a naturally broken-in feel straight out of the gate. The washed black crown pairs perfectly with the faded pigment-dyed red brim, creating a vintage two-tone look that feels more like a longtime favorite than something overly clean or factory fresh. The washed treatment softens the cotton twill immediately, giving the cap a naturally worn texture and comfortable feel from day one. The red brim fades slightly into darker tones around the edges, helping the hat feel lived-in without looking distressed in a forced way.
Built on a classic 6-panel low-profile dad hat silhouette, the fit stays relaxed and easy for daily wear. The unstructured soft crown allows the cap to conform naturally to the head over time, avoiding the stiff high-profile look that can feel overly rigid. The pre-curved visor keeps the shape timeless and functional whether you’re skating, driving, filming clips, or just throwing something on after a long session.
Comfort details include:
- 100% washed cotton twill
- Garment-washed pigment-dyed fabric
- 6 sewn eyelets for ventilation
- Standard cotton twill sweatband
- Pre-curved visor
- Antique brass metal press buckle closure
- Low-profile unstructured fit
Jeanine Hauk’s background in graphic design and tattooing shows heavily throughout the piece. Before becoming known in tattooing, she studied graphic design at California College of the Arts in San Francisco before apprenticing under Kayle Leogrande at Classic Tattoo in Upland. Her work became widely recognized through highly detailed typography, American Traditional imagery, pinups, lady heads, and intricate script work. Her current work at Strangelove LA continues to blend classic tattoo aesthetics with highly refined illustrative detail, and this hat carries that same visual energy in a subtle wearable form.
The overall result feels less like generic shop merch and more like an actual collaboration between skateboarding and local art culture — something that makes sense coming out of the SGV. Whether you’re skating around Duarte, hanging in Pasadena, or catching evening sessions around the San Gabriel Valley, this hat carries enough personality to stand out while still staying simple enough for everyday wear.
