The Nike SB Shoe Air Force 1 Low (Nocturnal) brings together one of Nike's most recognizable basketball silhouettes and the street-skating heritage of Philadelphia's Nocturnal Skate Shop. Part of Nike SB's special skate shop collaboration series, this release reimagines the original 1982 Air Force 1 with skate-ready construction, premium materials, and a distinctive Cool Grey, Court Green, and Black color combination. Inspired by Philadelphia's legendary skateboarding scene, the shoe combines understated styling with thoughtful details that reflect the identity of an independent skate shop that has supported its community for more than two decades.

The upper features a rich, textured Cool Grey suede that extends across the rounded toe box, stitched forefoot overlays, side panels, and heel. The suede has a soft, slightly brushed appearance, with subtle variations in texture that add depth to the otherwise muted grey foundation. Perforations across the toe box provide ventilation while maintaining the familiar Air Force 1 silhouette. Matching grey woven laces run through reinforced suede eyelets, complemented by a small metallic Nike SB lace ornament near the bottom of the lacing system. The padded mesh tongue features bright Court Green Nike SB branding, introducing the first hints of color against the subdued upper.

The most noticeable contrast comes from the oversized Court Green suede Swoosh extending across the lateral and medial side panels. Its textured finish stands out against the grey suede, while the bold green color references Philadelphia's sporting identity and the city's longstanding skateboarding culture. At the heel, a matching green leather tab features tonal embossed Nike SB Air branding, preserving the classic Air Force 1 identity with a modern skateboarding treatment. A thick, padded grey collar surrounds the ankle, while the interior reveals a green footbed with a subtle repeating dark pattern, completing the coordinated color scheme.

Underneath, the traditional Air Force 1 midsole is finished in solid black, providing a sharp visual separation between the grey upper and vibrant green outsole. The familiar embossed AIR lettering appears near the lateral heel, identifying the shoe's Nike Air cushioning system. The full-length Court Green rubber outsole features concentric circular traction patterns beneath the forefoot and heel, with additional tread grooves running along the perimeter. A grey Nike SB-branded section interrupts the green rubber at the center, adding another subtle detail to the bottom of the shoe.

Although its appearance stays close to the original Air Force 1, the Nike SB version has been adapted for skateboarding. The premium suede upper provides a more flexible fit, while the reinforced cupsole construction delivers support during repeated impacts. Encapsulated Nike Air cushioning works alongside a foam midsole to absorb shock during landings, and the plush ankle collar adds comfort and support. The rubber outsole provides dependable traction and durability, making this a versatile choice for street skating, ledges, flatground sessions, and everyday wear.

Behind this collaboration is Nocturnal Skate Shop, a respected independent skateboard store established in Philadelphia in 2000 by professional skateboarder Kerry Getz. Known for his technical street skating and influential video parts, Getz helped establish Nocturnal during a period when Philadelphia's skateboard community was transitioning from the legendary LOVE Park era. Following the closure of the influential Sub Zero Skate Shop, Getz and his longtime friend Tim Quinn recognized the need for another dedicated space where local skateboarders could gather, purchase equipment, meet other skaters, and stay connected to the scene.

Nocturnal quickly became more than a retail storefront. The shop developed into an important gathering place for Philadelphia skateboarders, supporting local riders, producing skateboards and apparel, and helping preserve the city's independent skateboarding identity. Over the years, the shop has maintained strong connections to Philadelphia's street skating community, including riders associated with the city's celebrated plazas, ledges, and urban architecture. Its collaboration with Nike SB represents recognition of the shop's contributions to skateboarding and the role independent retailers continue to play in developing local scenes.

The Cool Grey suede and Court Green accents reflect the gritty concrete surroundings and recognizable sporting colors of Philadelphia without relying on oversized graphics or excessive branding. The result is a skate shoe that feels connected to its hometown while remaining wearable well beyond the city. The collaboration is also part of Nike SB's broader recognition of influential independent skate shops around the world, highlighting retailers whose histories are inseparable from the communities they serve.

That connection between skateboarding and independent shops is something we understand at STIX SGV. While Nocturnal helped shape Philadelphia's scene, our own roots in the San Gabriel Valley go back to 1997. Skateboarders throughout Pasadena, Arcadia, Temple City, Alhambra, Duarte, and the surrounding communities have long depended on local shops to support riders, introduce new products, and keep skateboarding accessible. The Nocturnal Air Force 1 represents that shared culture, bringing the history of an East Coast skate institution to skateboarders here in Southern California.

The Nike SB Air Force 1 Low Nocturnal features a Cool Grey premium suede upper with leather accents, Court Green suede Swooshes, matching green heel tabs, tonal grey laces, padded ankle collars, breathable perforated toe boxes, black foam midsoles, encapsulated Nike Air cushioning, and Court Green rubber outsoles with circular traction patterns. Designed as a men's low-top skateboard shoe, it combines classic basketball-inspired construction with skateboarding-specific comfort, durability, and support. Official colorway: Cool Grey/Court Green-Black-Court Green. Nike style code: IV5289-003.
