Thanks to its beautiful tree-lined neighborhoods and historic homes, the city perfectly doubled as a quiet Midwestern suburb. Since the production took place during spring on a very limited budget, the crew famously scattered artificial autumn leaves around the streets to create the illusion of October.
Many of the movie's most iconic filming locations are just minutes from our South Pasadena shop. The legendary Michael Myers House, now preserved as a city landmark at 1000 Mission Street, sits only a short walk away alongside SugarMynt Gallery, a destination for horror fans from around the world. Just a few blocks away you'll find Laurie Strode's house on Fairview Avenue, the famous "peek-a-boo" hedge on Montrose Avenue where Michael silently watches Laurie and her friends, and the intersection of Mission Street and Meridian Avenue, where Dr. Loomis investigates the hardware store break-in while Michael quietly observes from his stolen station wagon. Nearby Highland Street is where Laurie, Annie, and Linda drive through town before Annie shouts the unforgettable line, "Hey jerk! Speed kills!" It's amazing to realize that so many unforgettable moments from horror history happened only minutes from our storefront.
Because of that unique hometown connection, Halloween has become part of the personality of our South Pasadena shop. Every October—and honestly much longer than that—you'll find a life-size Michael Myers standing in our front window greeting customers and stopping horror fans in their tracks. It's become one of our favorite displays, especially for visitors making the pilgrimage to see the original filming locations before or after stopping by the shop. Few skate shops can honestly say they're surrounded by the real streets of Haddonfield.
