Krooked Deck Van Wastell Redux (8.6)
The Van Wastell Redux comes bold and unapologetic: a bright red bottom veneer carries a chrome-ink skull with arrow totems stacked like a street totem pole, flanked by lightning bolts and topped with Van’s name in that scratchy, punk-flyer script. “Krooked” sits heavy near the tail above a little “Skateboards” flourish, and the shaped outline keeps a full, rounded nose and a wide, stable tail. Flip it over and the top is matte black stain with a white hand-lettered mantra—“LEARN NEW TRICKS … DO ‘EM … DON’T GET HURT”—finished with the classic double-eyes stamp. It looks right blasting across Old Town Pasadena’s brick seams or powering through those long SGV curb cuts you find off Foothill.
Pressed to skate, not just stare: 8.6" x 31.8", 14.375" wheelbase, nose ~6.812", tail ~6.437", traditional 7-ply North American maple, shaped profile for that extra platform under your back foot. A respectful reissue of Van’s inaugural Krooked pro graphic, tuned for modern street and park.
Brand roots run deep here. Krooked launched in 2002 under the Deluxe (DLXSF) umbrella, founded and steered visually by Mark Gonzales, whose sketchbook lines and off-kilter humor define the brand’s ads, videos, and boards. If you know the Gonz, you know why this graphic feels alive.
About Van Wastell: a powerful, stylish street skater from California, turned pro on Krooked after being championed by Gonz. Van passed away in 2008 while on tour in Germany; this Redux celebrates his skating and the energy he brought to every spot.
